Environmental Officer
Rate:- $60 - $100 + super / based on experience
Duration:- Initial 3 month contract + likely extension
Queensland Location / Travel + WFH
The position occupant, through direct consultation and direction by senior officers, undertakes a broad range of activities and regulatory and policy projects in connection with the specialised field of contaminated site assessment and management and the accredited site auditor scheme.
Key Accountabilities
- Responding to notifications of contaminated sites and carrying out components of the assessment and regulation of contaminated sites (such as assessing information in monitoring reports, reviewing remediation proposals and conducting site visits), as directed by the relevant Unit Manager.
- Undertaking research and reviewing the results of site investigations and validations to assess actual or potential site contamination problems, and discussing and recommending possible further investigation or remedial action.
- Contribute to policy projects including research tasks relating to contaminated sites policy.
- Carrying out tasks involved in the administration of the accredited site auditor scheme, including record keeping and data collection, and the convening of meetings of auditors and the accreditation panel.
- Assisting Unit Heads, Senior Project Officers and Project Officers with the collection and assessment of data relating to contaminated site issues, and providing accurate and timely advice on contaminated site issues (such as the environmental and human health criteria against which contamination is to be assessed and the type of contamination that can be caused by particular types of activities).
- Applying legislation and Section and EPA policies and guidelines relating to contaminated site assessment and management to contribute to the addressing of unacceptable risks to human health or the environment posed by the contamination
- Identifying and recommending, where appropriate, action to address contaminated site issues to further the EPA’s fulfilment of its duties under the Contaminated Land Management Act.
- Carrying out assessments and providing accurate and timely advice on contaminated site issues to other officers of the EPA and to people outside the EPA, to appropriately respond to notifications of contaminated sites
Selection Criteria
- Knowledge of contaminated site management, chemicals and their impact on the environment, and environment protection issues
- Knowledge of legislation and policies relevant to contaminated site management and environment protection.
- Understanding of and ability in, the policy development process.
- Current Australian Drivers licence.
