The Shire of Dowerin is seeking a motivated and experienced Plant Operator / General Hand to join our Infrastructure and Projects team. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the upkeep and improvement of our local roads and infrastructure while working in a supportive team environment.

Key Responsibilities

Operate heavy plant machinery (grader, loader, skid steer, excavator) in a safe and efficient manner.

Undertake a broad range of road maintenance and civil construction tasks.

Perform pre-start checks, routine maintenance, and equipment servicing.

Accurately complete timesheets and required documentation.

Work both independently and collaboratively as part of a small team.

Demonstrate professional conduct when interacting with colleagues, contractors, and the public.

Uphold workplace safety by following procedures and using PPE as directed.

What We’re Looking For

Proven experience operating a range of heavy plant and machinery.

Strong understanding of road construction and maintenance methods.

Mechanical aptitude and hands-on equipment maintenance experience.

Ability to prioritise tasks, manage time effectively, and work with minimal supervision.

Effective communication and teamwork skills.

Essential Requirements

Construction Safety Awareness (White Card)

Basic Worksite Traffic Control and Management certification

Minimum HR class driver’s licence (HC or MC licence desirable)

Satisfactory National Police Clearance

Ability to pass a Pre-Employment Medical
