đź’Ľ Payroll & Accounting Specialist
Part-Time | 12-Month Contract | Thomastown VIC
Tri Tech Refrigeration is one of Australia’s largest privately owned industrial refrigeration specialists. Headquartered in Melbourne’s northern suburbs (Thomastown) with operations across multiple states, we design, build and maintain high-performance refrigeration systems — particularly for clients in the food manufacturing and storage sectors.
We’re seeking a skilled and dependable Payroll & Accounting Specialist to join our team on a part-time basis. You’ll take ownership of end-to-end payroll across multiple entities — including timesheets, processing, journals, and award/EBA interpretation — while also supporting our payroll system transition. In parallel, you’ll contribute to a significant uplift in financial reporting, including assisting with end-of-year close, reconciliations and accounting process improvements.
This role is ideal for someone with mid-market experience in both payroll and accounting, and who brings CA/CPA qualifications (or equivalent) to support project-based payroll & finance work within a close-knit and collaborative team.
đź“‹ The Role at a Glance
đź•’ 0.8 FTE (4 full days or 5 shorter days per week)
📆 12-month fixed-term contract
💰 $85,000–$105,000 pro rata base + super or equivalent casual/contractor rate
📍 Thomastown VIC | Principally office-based with some hybrid flexibility
⚙️ Our Environment
Tri Tech is in a period of rapid improvement across our finance, payroll and HR systems. We are migrating payroll from Access Attaché to Employment Hero (KeyPay engine) and rolling out new HRIS and ERP platforms to support our growing operations.
You’ll help ensure continuity of payroll during the transition, while also contributing to a broader uplift in accounting and reporting standards — including financial close processes, reconciliations and documentation of tools, templates and procedures for future cycles.
🧰 What You’ll Be Doing
1. Fortnightly Payroll (Multi-Entity)
Process end-to-end payroll for multiple entities, including timesheet validation, costing, pay runs, payslips, ABA files and payroll journals.
Ensure compliance with relevant awards, EBAs, legislative obligations and industry-specific entitlements such as Incolink.
Reconcile payroll journals and respond to payroll-related queries.
2. Payroll System & HRIS Project Support
Support the transition from Access Attaché to Employment Hero Payroll (KeyPay) and implementation of HRIS module (Employment Hero HR).
Assist with data cleansing, system configuration, parallel pay runs, testing and documentation.
Help document updated processes and assist with internal training and adoption.
3. Financial Reporting & Accounting Support
Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, including account reconciliations, journal preparation and general ledger review.
Support the standardisation and documentation of finance processes, templates and workpapers for future reporting periods.
Contribute to internal reporting, compliance and finance operations uplift initiatives.
✅ What You’ll Bring
Payroll Expertise: 5+ years’ experience in end-to-end payroll, including multi-entity pay runs, intercompany labour recharges, award/EBA interpretation (in a manufacturing, trades or technical environment) and industry-specific entitlements (such as Incolink). Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, superannuation, leave and compliance is essential.
Tech Readiness: Deep working knowledge of Access Attaché and/or Employment Hero (KeyPay), and confidence using Excel for reconciliations and reporting (intermediate to advanced) plus comfort with modern Microsoft 365 suite generally — applications without this cannot be considered.
Accounting Mastery: Strong understanding of accounting processes including reconciliations, journals and ledger review. Prior exposure to statutory reporting or audit preparation is a bonus.
Professional Credentials: CA/CPA qualification (or progress toward) is strongly preferred.
System-Change Experience: Proven, practical involvement in the implementation of at least one payroll/HRIS and/or ERP system — highly desirable.
Initiative & Independence: A detail-oriented, self-motivated operator who can work flexibly across both routine and project-based tasks in a collaborative environment, and capable of owning a part-time workload with minimal supervision.
