The Fundraising and Communications Division (FCD) is responsible for ensuring that Cancer Council maintains a visible, engaging presence in the community; and to inspire and activate support from Victorians.

This is achieved through best-practice high volume direct marketing approaches; exceptional relationship management of high value supporters including major donors, charitable foundations, corporate partners and Gifts in Wills supporters; delivery of iconic fundraising events; and product sales and royalties through our retail arm.

The Brand, Communications and Marketing Unit works across multiple channels and campaigns, to deliver innovative, omni-channel, impactful marketing and communications activities. This drives supporter, consumer and public engagement, fundraising outcomes and understanding of the Cancer Council Victoria brand.

About your opportunity

We are seeking a Social Media Officer to join the Fundraising and Communications Division. Reporting to the Media Planner, your role is to:

  • Develop and implement social media content, collaborate on social media strategy, working closely with the Media Planner and Digital Marketing Manager, as well as external agency partners
  • Oversee the implementation of core Cancer Council Victoria social channels following best practice guidelines, monitor trends, and look for innovation and testing opportunities
  • Brief creative, create content, post org-wide activity, run social listening/scheduling software and help build our influencer program
  • Collaborate with and oversee external agencies on strategic and design work; as well as work with internal stakeholders to deliver on various objectives and communication goals
  • Support community management and assist with periodic reporting and analytics.

Working closely with teams across the organisation and beyond, the Social Media Officer is an integral role to the delivery and success of our social presence. The Social Media Officer is collaborative, curious and creative, with a keen eye for great social content – this role will ensure Cancer Council Victoria’s social media presence is engaging and achieves the right tone, in line with our brand.

All about you

We are looking for someone with:

  • Diploma in marketing or demonstrated relevant industry experience
  • Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in developing and implementing content
  • Experience in creative briefing, project management and content planning
  • Experience with content capture – interviewing, filming and event capture, as well as comfortable being on camera
  • Proven organisational and time management skills, including the ability to work autonomously, meet deadlines, manage multiple and often conflicting priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to actively listen, support stakeholder relationships, and become a trusted contributor to campaign teams
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
