The Forensic Biology Unit is responsible for processing all biological evidence from the Northern Territory Police Force to assist in their investigation of crime.
As a senior member of the Forensic Biology Unit, you will manage a case load of serious and complex cases, encompassing evidence examination, DNA profile analysis and interpretation, statistical analysis, report writing and presentation of expert evidence in court.
You will have the opportunity to attend scenes of crime to provide advice/or to sample biological evidence, blood stain pattern analysis evidence for investigative and evidentiary purposes.
You will apply your expertise to develop and implement new technologies in the fields of molecular and forensic biology. In addition, you will ensure the National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) forensic accreditation standards are maintained and provide training to Forensic Science Branch staff, NT Police Force members and external stakeholders.
To be successful, you require a BSc majoring in molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics (or similar), with extensive experience in an accredited forensic biology laboratory and proven ability to manage forensic biology casework including those of a more complex nature. Experience presenting complex forensic biology results in court including opinion evidence and post-grad qualifications in a relative discipline will be well received.
