The Victorian Aboriginal Child and Community Agency (VACCA) is an Aboriginal Community-Controlled organisation that supports and advocates for the Aboriginal Community and is the largest organisation of its kind in Australia. About the role
This role supports the delivery of high-quality, culturally safe playgroups across the Eastern metropolitan region, with a dual focus on family engagement and playgroup facilitation. VACCA’s playgroups welcome all children and families, creating safe spaces for vulnerable families to build connections with Aboriginal Elders, Community Members, and artists.
The program fosters intentional, play-based learning, strengthens parent-child relationships, promotes parental skill development, and supports children's developmental milestones and school readiness. Through culturally affirming practices, families gain access to early years education, maternal and child health services, and opportunities to develop strong cultural identity and community ties.
About You
- Commitment to and understanding of the values that underpin VACCA’ vision and purpose
- Awareness and appreciation of Aboriginal societies and cultures, along with awareness of the key issues which impact upon Aboriginal communities, and commitment to continually build knowledge in this area
- Sound understanding of child development, including developmental domains and milestones.
- Proven ability to engage effectively with Aboriginal organisations, government departments, and community service providers.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing reports.
- Demonstrated experience working collaboratively within a team environment.
- Capacity to plan, coordinate, and facilitate group sessions with children and families.
- Commitment to professional development through training programs and supervision.
- Flexibility to work varied hours as required by the organisation and program.
- Cultural competence in working respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families, and communities to support and maintain cultural connections.
- Requirements: Valid Police Check, a Working with Children’s Check for a paid employee (or willingness to obtain) and a Victorian Driver Licence. Current COVID-19 vaccination (Strongly Recommended)
