Posted 9 days ago
Indie School Mirrabooka and Midland invite qualified teachers to join our Casual Relief Teacher (CRT) pool. We are looking for educators, whether new graduates or experienced, primary or secondary trained—who share our passion for holistic, strengths-based education and believe every young person can re-engage and succeed.
Suitable candidates will be interviewed and if successful will be placed into an active talent pool, with potential opportunities to be considered for future positions as they become available.
The daily casual relief teacher rate is $623 per day. Casual relief teachers will receive a full day rate even if they work less than a full day!
Indie School provides students in Years 9 – 12 the opportunity to learn in a supportive environment using individual learning plans, tailored to each student's own education and life circumstances. Smaller class sizes allow students greater opportunity to identify their strengths and work to improve areas in which they lack confidence.
The greatest difference between Indie School and many other alternative education settings is that our foundations lie in Adult Education philosophies. Choice, independence, mutual respect, and accountability all have a significant role to play. In return for higher levels of self-responsibility, the students can enjoy some greater freedoms.
Successful Applicants will be required to:
- Deliver the teaching program in line with appropriate curriculum.
- Have excellent teacher knowledge, practice and professional engagement.
- Ensure an effective use of time and resources in the delivery of classes aligned to student’s individual learning and pathways plans.
- Promote the school’s alternative educational and strengths-based model to ensure student goals and personal outcomes are progressed with the focus on “Changing the Lives of Young People”.
- Working collaboratively in a small team to implement feedback.
- Embracing opportunities to participate in coaching and mentoring programs.
- Supporting students with a range of learning needs, including disabilities, behavioural disturbances, Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADD/ADHD, low levels of literacy/numeracy, and mental illness. This includes personalising the learning for individual students pursuant to the levels of adjustment of the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD).
- Embedding the strategies from Individual Plans in lessons to support the needs of the student.
- Providing timely and specific feedback to students to support learning growth (particularly through formative assessment practices).
- Behaviour management (including an understanding of trauma-informed practice, or a willingness to gain this knowledge).
