Your opportunity

The Senior Practitioner provides specialist expertise in the development and delivery of evidence informed individual and group therapeutic interventions intended to:

  • support clients in the Mirikai Residential Treatment Program as well as LLW community programs and self-referrals from the Gold Coast community;
  • provide psychological interventions to assist people with complex needs (including dual diagnoses) in reducing or ceasing harmful alcohol and/or drug use;
  • assist people with complex needs (including dual diagnoses) to establish healthier lifestyles; and
  • address mental health presentations through psychotherapy and counselling with a focus on historical trauma and personality disorder

Other responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Lead the provision of high quality engagement, assessment, psychotherapy, counselling, and if relevant case management to clients referred to the Youth Dual Diagnosis Program using evidence based practice principles
  • Manage and provide psychotherapy to a case load of clients with complex needs/dual diagnoses
  • Work with clients and where appropriate, their families to develop, implement and review individual treatment goals, and exit/discharge plans
  • Support and facilitate psychotherapy referrals for residential clients and be a liaison point for private practitioners as needed
  • Develop and facilitate therapeutic and psycho-educational groups, including group interventions for clients, families and significant others as needed
  • Provide expert AOD/dual diagnosis practice advice and support in processes for intake and assessment, clinical case review, discharge, and program development for the residential program
  • Provide expert AOD and complex needs/dual diagnosis practice advice and secondary consultation to other LLW Clinicians
  • Facilitate Psychology Interns in the YDD program if needed and provide support and line management
  • Ensure that client records, data collection and reporting are consistent with privacy and confidentiality guidelines and relevant practice standards
  • Actively ensure all procedures and relevant systems are implemented, understood and adhered to on an ongoing basis including incident reports
  • Contribute to the development of reports to funding bodies and internal performance review/s

This is a two-day per week position working 7.6 hours per day for two days a week during business hours.

The gross hourly pay rate for this role is $55.72 - $58.18 per hour + super + salary packaging benefits, depending on skills, knowledge and experience.

What you’ll bring

  • Minimum bachelor level tertiary qualification in psychology, social work or counselling.
  • Minimum 2 years post graduate experience in the delivery of face to face psychotherapy and evidence based therapeutic practice in AOD and/or mental health settings, including working with clients with complex needs is desirable
  • Highly developed consultation, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Highly developed skills in fostering practice development
  • Current Australia Drivers Licence.
  • Registration with relevant professional association (e.g. AHPRA, AASW, ACAP)
  • Hold (or able to) a Working with Children Check (e.g. Blue Card)
  • Complete a National Criminal History check.
  • Experience working with individuals with AOD and mental health issues (including trauma)
  • Experience and understanding of working within a harm minimisation approach.
  • Ability to use relevant information technology and electronic client recording systems and data management tools.
  • Ability and experience in the application of group and individual interventions with an understanding of risk management.
  • A high level of interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), problem solving and negotiation skills and demonstrated ability to consult, liaise and negotiate with team members, other professionals, and outside agencies.
