About the Logan Youth Foyer (LYFSS)

The Logan Youth Foyer (LYFSS) is funded by the Department of Communities, Housing and Digital Economies and aims to offer opportunities and resources to young people to maximise an individual’s capacity to be independent, self-reliant and connected to appropriate social and community resources including assisting them in securing stable and long-term housing.

Your role as a Youth Development Coach

You’ll assists in the delivery of services and activities to the Logan Youth Foyer community. This includes direct work with young people and management of the environment after business hours, including the development and facilitation of community and cultural development activities for young people both on site and externally as well as linking in with the wider community.

The role will also support the team in administration tasks and reporting. This role requires flexible working hours.

The key accountabilities for this role will include:

Participate in reflective practice while continuously reviewing professional identity, professional practice frameworks including Advantaged Thinking and working aligned with the team's values and displaying high motivation and initiative.

Provide administrative support to the team as required, including reporting on shift activities and responses provided after hours.

Contribute to the ongoing development of the program including assistance with activities and events, related administration and other related tasks as required.

Support and assist the LYFSS community to access onsite facilities, supervise access as required and manage the environment.

Provide direct practical support to young people in coordination with the other LYFSS team members as required or directed including development and facilitation of structured and unstructured activities that meet the needs of the target group and are in line with service objectives and development plans.

Engage and sustain effective and professional relationships with the young people accessing the program.

About You

A qualification in the Community Services or related field with experience working in a similar environment with similar duties.

Effective written and high-level oral communication skills with empathy, tact and discretion and ability to build rapport quickly and develop relationships with people from diverse backgrounds.

Ability to positively work as part of a team with minimal supervision, high initiative and in an environment requiring flexibility.

Ability to acquire knowledge of and work within an Advantage Thinking framework.

Experienced in program service delivery to young people.

High level verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, including report writing, negotiation, advocacy and the ability to effectively engage with young people.

Understanding of the current issues for communities within the Logan LGA & Community Development principles.

The ability to undertake administrative tasks including a good level of computer literacy.
