CAAPS is an Aboriginal Community Controlled organisation delivering a range of important community services to people through activities and services that reflect our CORE values of caring, openness, respect and empowerment.

You will offer intensive support primarily referred from the Department of Territory Families Housing and Communities (DTFHC) and, utilising a strength-based, trauma-informed, and culturally affirming approach, provide practical in-home support and child-centered, family-led casework to establish nurturing environments, enhance capacity, and maintain the safety and unity of families.

Your main responsibilities will be:

Offer impactful in-home support, engage in collaborative casework, establish referral pathways, and organise group activities.

Cultivate cooperative relationships with stakeholders, expand service provider networks, and strengthen community connections.

Ensure the upkeep of administration, client records, and fulfill reporting obligations.

Implement empowering practices and contribute to the enhancement of service quality.

Family Support Workers will be required to engage in regular clinical supervision as part of their ongoing professional development, to ensure reflective practice, support emotional wellbeing, enhance service delivery, and maintain a high standard of trauma-informed, client-centred care.

Your skills, experience and qualifications include:

Academic qualifications in Community Services, Social Work, or a relevant field (progress in ongoing studies may be considered).

Practical experience in working with high-risk/vulnerable families in family support/case work, showcasing a track record of effective client engagement, adaptability, culturally safe approaches, and positive outcomes.

Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures with connections to Aboriginal family networks, organisations, and communities.

Capability and willingness to conduct home visits, offer in-home support, and provide practical assistance, collaborating with families to establish physically and emotionally secure environments conducive to the thriving of children and families.

Devotion to working with families to implement child safety/family well-being plans, fostering parenting skills, stabilising homes, mitigating child protection and domestic/family violence risks, and preserving family unity.

Demonstrated teamwork skills and a readiness to engage in supervision and reflective practice, communicating respectfully with all individuals, including colleagues, management, statutory authorities, service providers, key stakeholders, and families/carers.

Proficient writing and ICT skills, along with the ability to maintain client records, input data into electronic systems, and produce documentation and written communications in a timely manner.

Adherence to legislation, policies, and procedures, coupled with a commitment to Child Safe Organisations principles, workplace health and safety (WHS), risk management, and practices for quality improvement.

Current First Aid Certificate

Current NT Driver’s License (minimum C Class)

Current Criminal History Check

Current Ochre Card (Category E)

Experience in effectively to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.

Demonstrated computer skills including MS Suite, email, and records management.
