MARS Recruitment is proud to be partnering with a highly regarded Australian law firm in the search for a Credit Controller to join their Sydney-based finance team. This permanent position sits within a small, collaborative credit team and reports directly to the Financial Control Manager.
The ideal candidate will bring experience from a professional services environment, with strong exposure to end-to-end billing and collections processes. This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established firm that values high performance, teamwork, and professional development.
The Responsibilities:
- Proactively follow up on outstanding invoices to ensure timely payment, resolving credit control queries and disputes promptly to unlock overdue debts.
- Review WIP, invoices, and disbursement write-offs monthly, investigating any significant variances.
- Assist in identifying and investigating unallocated or unidentified cash receipts.
- Provide support for general credit control enquiries.
- Collaborate with the Billing Team to ensure pledged bills are issued promptly, accurately, and in accordance with client agreements.
- Monitor WIP accumulation and flag instances where fee estimates may be exceeded; liaise with the Head of Financial Control & Operations, and CFO to ensure appropriate client communication.
- Escalate aged or material WIP, disbursements, or debts in line with policies.
- Support ad hoc projects and provide backup assistance as required by the Head of Financial Control & Operations.
The Requirements:
- Prior experience in a similar role, ideally within the professional services sector.
- Strong knowledge of billing processes and financial operations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a relationship-focused approach.
- Strong time management skills and the ability to work independently within tight deadlines.
- Experience with Elite 3E or a similar legal/accounting practice management system is desirable; experience with large-scale ERPs (e.g. SAP, Oracle, Dynamics 365) is also advantageous.
- Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Outlook, and Word.

- Flexible work from home arrangements - 2 days in the office per week.
