What you'll be doing

Preoperative Care:

Assess patients’ physical and psychological condition before surgery.

Assist in preparing patients for surgery (e.g., verifying identity, confirming surgical procedure, and ensuring consent is obtained).

Administer preoperative medications and treatments as directed by a registered nurse or medical staff.

Ensure patients’ comfort and provide emotional support by answering questions and offering reassurance.

Maintaining a safe, clean, and well-organised work environment

Adhering to all relevant policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines

Postoperative Care:

Monitor patients’ recovery post-surgery, including vital signs and dressing changes.

Administer post-operative medications as prescribed.

Assist patients with pain management strategies and comfort care.

Document patient conditions and any changes observed in their recovery process.

Provide instructions and education to patients regarding postoperative care (e.g., wound care, medication instructions, diet, and activity restrictions).

Patient Education and Support:

Educate patients and their families on the surgical process, recovery expectations, and potential complications.

Offer emotional support, listen to concerns, and provide clear explanations about the recovery process.

Encourage patient mobility.

Clinical Documentation:

Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including assessments, treatments, medications, and surgical notes.

Communicate effectively with other members of the healthcare team (e.g., doctors, registered nurses) regarding patient progress and care needs.

What we're looking for

Current registration as an Enrolled Nurse with AHPRA

Demonstrated experience in a similar role, preferably within a day hospital or acute care setting

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team

Excellent clinical skills and a commitment to providing high-quality, patient-centred care

Attention to detail and the ability to work efficiently and effectively under pressure
