About This Opportunity

UQ Sport is on the cusp of something extraordinary. As we are about to enter a new era with a brand-new Fitness Centre, a revitalised sport precinct, and a unique opportunity to contribute to the journey towards Brisbane 2032, we are now seeking an exceptional Fitness Centre Manager who will lead and manage the UQ Sport Fitness Centre through its next phase of growth and transformation.

Spanning three levels, the new Fitness Centre will offer enhanced facilities designed to cater to all fitness levels and abilities. This includes a 1,650m² indoor gym, upgraded strength, weights and cardio equipment, and five multi-use studios to support an expanded and diverse group fitness offering.

In this newly created role, you will take the lead on the selection of all the new Fitness equipment, the gym configuration, and group fitness offering, ensuring a safe, efficient, and highly engaging experience for every member. With a strong focus on service excellence, you will drive increased utilisation, foster community engagement, and support sustainable revenue growth across the Fitness Centre.

Success in this role requires strong leadership across multiple fronts, including team development, stakeholder engagement, customer flow optimisation, process improvement, and business performance. You'll also be responsible for ensuring the effective use of facilities and resources, all aligned with UQ Sport’s strategic direction and long-term vision.

About You

Degree in Sports Management, Sports Facilities and Event Management, Business Management, Business Administration, or related field.

Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar venue or fitness/sports centre management role.

Demonstrated ability to lead, engage, and retain staff in a commercial or customer-facing environment.

Strong business and financial acumen, with experience managing budgets and analysing operational performance.

Proven skills in conflict resolution, stakeholder engagement, and influencing at all levels.

Experience in delivering and improving customer service standards and communicating required resourcing needs and costs with users.

Experience in undertaking the physical operations of setting up venues and change overs for different sporting and booked events.

Ability to interpret and act on data to improve business outcomes.

Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, with strong planning and organisational abilities.

Proactive, solutions-focused mindset with the ability to work independently.

Comfortable operating in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including: right to work in Australia, criminal check, education check, first aid and CPR certification, blue card check.
