We have a role for an experienced Project Manager with a technical background and project management experience to support the procurement of tactical equipment for Defence.

Project Manager – Defence Procurement

Project Services International is a growing professional services and project management company helping deliver successful projects for our customers. We have several opportunities for our people to support our Defence project team in Melbourne (and upcoming opportunities in Canberra, Newcastle, Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide).

Our projects within the Defence environment are increasing and are focused on rapid acquisition and sustainment of tactical systems. This is a key role that supports Australia’s sovereign capability.

This role involves procurement, capability planning, developing procedures, data analysis, coordination and reporting of Defence projects.

This is a permanent role which is based at Victoria Barracks Melbourne and includes flexible Working from Home and Office options.

Job Description:

You will be part of a project team that provides a range of specialist services including engineering, logistics and project management to assist Defence in the planning, acquisition, and sustainment of tactical equipment and systems. This role is responsible for the following outcomes:

Project manage equipment procurements, including Foreign Military Sales (FMS) Cases and tendering activities;

Coordinate and manage the Third Party Retransfer and Technical Access Agreement process to ensure compliance;

Evaluate, plan, negotiate and manage the Government Furnished Equipment and Data process within the governance framework and procurement guidelines for the project;

Develop the Authorisation to Operate (ATO) documentation. Manage the process including risks and scheduling activities to meet the delivery milestones.

Actively participate in risk management activities such as raising and managing risks, attending project risk reviews, and providing updates in Predict (risk management system). Make recommendations around risks and escalate as necessary;

Engage with key stakeholders to ensure project interests are aligned.

Provide communications input to the technical team with developing system requirements;

Attend meetings to update on progress of key project activities and accept new activities as the scope adjusts accordingly;

Attend and contribute to Integrated Project Management Team meetings and associated Working Groups;

Contribute to government monitoring and reporting requirements.

What you bring:

Relevant qualifications in project management

Experience within a government or Defence environment

An understanding of the Defence Capability Life Cycle

Experience in a similar role

Experience in building trusted and valued relationships with project team members

Process driven and attention to detail are necessary

Effective problem solving and time management abilities

Excellent communication and organisational skills

Minimum requirements:

Must have experience in the Australian Defence Industry or Australian Defence Force

A current or expired security clearance is essential (minimum NV1)
