Your role:
As a Plant Operator, you’ll be part of a highly capable team responsible for operating and maintaining heavy machinery, playing a vital role in military construction projects. Whether you’re paving airfields, clearing explosive hazards, or providing much-needed disaster relief, you’ll have all the tools you need at your disposal to accomplish the mission.
Not only will you be in the driver’s seat, you’ll also learn the engineering foundations to make technical decisions and give advice on all aspects of construction on the ground.
Your duties include, but aren’t limited to:
Constructing, maintaining, and repairing infrastructure, including roads, ports, and airfields
Operating and maintaining heavy plant equipment, such as forklifts (on-road and off-road), loaders, excavators, rollers, graders, dozers and cranes
Undertaking environmental work, such as soil testing and draining
Installing infrastructure services, like water and electricity

Location:
Following your initial military training, you could be posted to one of the many Army bases and units across Australia primarily in QLD & NT.
Salary:
In the Army you'll get paid a good salary from day one regardless of your age, experience or qualifications. Upon commencing training, your starting salary will be approximately $58,528 per annum plus 16.4% superannuation and your pay will increase as you progress through training.
On completion of your initial military training and initial employment training, you’ll enjoy a package starting from $87,929 per annum.
As part of your training for this Plant Operator role, you’ll earn qualifications for the operation of certain vehicles.
Eligibility:
For this role, you must:
Be at least 17 years of age when you enter the ADF
Have completed an Australian Year 10 education (or equivalent) with passes in English and Mathematics
Be an Australian citizen. If you are not an Australian Citizen you may still be eligible to join the ADF if you meet certain criteria, please visit the ADF Careers Eligibility Page for more details
Be reasonably fit and healthy. Keeping fit is a big part of joining the ADF. You’ll need to pass a physical fitness test before you join, but don’t worry, we'll give you tips to help you prepare
Be able to successfully obtain a security clearance
