The Role
Guided by the College mantra - If this were my child, what would I want / do? - the Head of English will lead an established team of educators, focused on delivery of one of the core curriculum areas, to the College’s students. As a significant player in the College’s partnership with the University of Melbourne “New Metrics” research venture, the Head will lead the team delivering the English curriculum that is capabilities-focused and human-centred, and embraces Gen-ED, the College’s unique pedagogical statement.
Key Responsibilities:
In collaboration with peers and members of the College’s Leadership Team, guide the current and future directions of the College’s teaching and learning program.
Remain abreast of current best thinking in curriculum and pedagogy.
Build and foster a strong team environment.
Participate in staff selection and appointment activities for the Department, including matching of staff capabilities to courses and activities as part of the annual College staffing plan.
About You
Able to commence in January 2026, you are an experienced educator with a passion for human-centered education. Eager to collaborate as part of our research partnership with the University of Melbourne, you are a dynamic leader, willing to incorporate complex competencies into everyday practice.
As part of our philosophy of care and inclusion for students, you are also a mentor or coach for staff, seeking to support the development and growth of your team.
Committed to fostering a professional and dynamic community of innovation and change, based on current research, you will also be able to demonstrate your ability to ensure educational and curriculum compliance with legislated and College requirements.
Essential criteria include:
Demonstrated team leadership ability with strong interpersonal skills in an educational setting.
Excellent communication skills - verbal and written.
High level attention to detail, prioritisation and problem-solving skills.
Exemplary teaching skills and curriculum knowledge.
Relevant tertiary qualifications (preferably at Master’s level).
Current TRBWA registration.
Hold a current Working with Children Check.
