We are seeking a suitably qualified and experienced person as Waste and Litter Response Officer, who undertake a variety of tasks and activities in an aim to restore and maintain the amenity of public spaces throughout Hume City Council.
What you’ll be doing:
- shop cleaning,
- roadside litter collection,
- public open space & reserves,
- dead animal and syringe collection,
- e-waste,
- smoker’s poles clearances.
- Operate all types of waste and litter collection vehicles.
- Conduct pre-start checks and perform routine maintenance on a daily basis in accordance with approved pre-start and post checklists and maintenance programs.
- Carry out Environmental Services waste and litter collection programs including:
- Where necessary assist with the domestic waste collection program by driving the vehicle and emptying bins in accordance with approved programs.
- Carry out collection and disposal programs in accordance with Council’s Workplace Health and Safety policies and procedures, ensuring a safe working environment for staff and contractors.
- Dispose of waste and litter collected at Council’s resource recovery centres as required.
- Respond to work requests through Hume’s CRM including updating job notes, attaching photos, and closing our or referring jobs are necessary.
- Comply with the quality and safety systems requirements by completing appropriate paperwork.
The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role:
- A demonstrated understanding of municipal environmental services operations and practices.
- Proficiency in the utilisation of heavy mechanical plant and equipment.
- Basic awareness of relevant legislation including, "Road Management Act 2004".
- Knowledge of Works Programming, plant & equipment selection.
- Knowledge of the maintenance procedures, plant, equipment, and materials including the Road Works Signing Code of Practice.
- Basic knowledge of Quality Assurance/ OH&S processes & procedures in relation to the works to be undertaken.
- Demonstrated written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to gain co-operation and effectively communicate verbally with individuals from various backgrounds and cultures.
Required Certifications & Qualifications:
- Certificate of competency to operate environmental services plant and equipment
- Forklift licence
- <10M Crane Training
- Dogging High Risk License
- Spotter Certificate
- OH&S Red Card
- Asbestos Awareness Training
- Traffic Control Training
- Manual Handling Training
- Current First Aid and CPR
- Certificate III in Waste Management or substantial relevant experience in the field of waste and litter programs with lesser formal qualifications.
- Relevant experience in the field of waste and litter collection and disposal or a similar maintenance environment.
- Current heavy vehicle truck licence.
