About the Role
Are you a collaborative, community-minded professional passionate about creating opportunities for young people and working on projects that support them?
Youth Action is seeking a Project Officer to support the design, delivery, and evaluation of community-based engagement and sector development projects across NSW, with a particular focus on Western Sydney and other priority regions. Responsible for coordinating delivery and driving continuous improvement, this role helps operationalise projects that build youth voice, strengthen service delivery, and support Youth Action’s strategic priorities.

You’ll work closely with the CEO, General Manager, and Youth Participation & Sector Development Office to lead projects with and for young people, coordinate sector events, and contribute to policy and advocacy initiatives. Whether implementing special projects, facilitating a local forum, or co-designing a training series or workshop, this role is ideal for someone who values community connection and believes in the power of young people to lead change.

Accountabilities
Project Coordination
Support the design and implement delivery, and evaluation of Youth Action’s projects.
Coordinate youth engagement initiatives such as advisory groups, workshops, forums, or consultation sessions across regions, with a strong focus on Western Sydney
Facilitate co-design and participatory methods to shape project content and delivery with young people and local communities, particularly in underrepresented communities in Western Sydney
Develop project resources, communications, and evaluation materials that reflect impact and share learning
Track project outcomes and contribute to funder reports, internal learning, and strategic planning
Collaborate with colleagues to ensure youth participation and sector engagement are embedded across all of Youth Action’s activities, campaigns and initiatives.
Youth Participation and Leadership
Create safe, inclusive, and accessible spaces for diverse young people to engage, lead, and influence Youth Action’s work
Facilitate youth-led and co-designed activities, with a focus on centring underrepresented young people including Aboriginal, CALD, LGBTIQA+, disabled, and regional/rural youth
Support onboarding, training, and ongoing care for youth participants, with particular emphasis on engaging young people from Western Sydney
Develop tools, resources, and workshops that promote best-practice youth participation across the sector
Sector Engagement and Network Support
Build and maintain strong relationships with youth services, local government, sector networks, and community partners across NSW, with a focus on Western Sydney networks and stakeholders
Coordinate and facilitate professional learning events, Communities of Practice, and collaborative initiatives
Support youth workers and services with advice, peer learning, and practical tools that improve outcomes for young people
Ensure sector insights and frontline experiences inform Youth Action’s policy, advocacy, and campaigns
What You’ll Bring to the Role
Relevant tertiary qualifications in youth work, community development, social work, or a related field – or equivalent real-world experience.
At least two years’ experience leading or supporting impactful projects in the youth, community development or service delivery sectors.
Strong understanding of youth participation, youth development, and rights-based principles and practice
Experience working directly with young people and/or youth services, especially in diverse or underrepresented communities
Solid organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities, with strong project planning and organisational skills
Confident and effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write and tailor accessible content, presentations, or tools for young people and the sector.
Experience designing and delivering events, training, or group sessions—online and in person
Knowledge of youth issues and the NSW youth sector, with knowledge of Western Sydney being highly desirable.
A proven ability to work independently, responsively and collaboratively in a fast-paced, purpose-driven team, meeting deadlines, and hitting project goals, as well as experience using real-time collaboration and project tools (e.g. SharePoint, Teams, Monday, etc) to manage shared work.

A current Working with Children Check and National Police Check, or willingness to obtain both
