About The MARCS Institute
The MARCS Institute for Brain, Behaviour and Development is an interdisciplinary research institute of Western Sydney University. The Opportunity
Are you a passionate computational and corpus linguist eager to contribute to impactful research into multilingualism? Western’s MARCS Institute for Brain, Behaviour and Development is seeking to appoint up to two outstanding and innovative scholars to join as part-time Postdoctoral Research Fellows in Computational Linguistics. The first position will be a 2-year appointment focused on data modelling and corpus-based investigations. The second position will be a 1-year appointment focused on international data collection and large dataset management. These roles offer the chance to work on the cutting-edge project, “Understanding the mastery of multiple languages and dialects” funded by an Australian Research Council Discovery Project Grant led by Professor Paola Escudero.
As a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, you will conduct research into how multilingual and multidialectal mastery develops. Working closely with Professor Paola Escudero, you will lead complex data modelling and corpus-based investigations, including meta data-base building, management and analysis, as well as conduct online research testing and recruitment. You will be involved in all aspects of the research lifecycle, from designing, setting up, running studies to analysing and writing up high-quality articles in recognised journals and presenting findings at conferences.
Up to two fixed-term positions are available for either 1 or 2 years. Both positions are part-time 28 hours per week (0.8 FTE), and based at Westmead Innovation Quarter.

About You
You hold or are close to completing a doctoral qualification in Computational Linguistics or a related field. You have expertise in complex data-modelling and corpus-based analysis, and/or using state-of-the art empirical methods (e.g. eye-tracking or electroencephalography). You have a proven track record of publishing high-quality research and presenting at conferences. Your excellent communication and interpersonal skills enable you to thrive in collaborative research environments.

Remuneration Package: Academic Level A $90,174 to $108,944 p.a. (comprising Salary of $76,198 to $92,059 p.a., plus Superannuation and Leave Loading)
