We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Occupational Therapy Assistant to provide after-school support (Monday/Tuesday to start). The primary focus of this role will be to assist with daily routines, schoolwork, and activities, with an emphasis on occupational therapy goals aimed at improving daily living and independence.
This position is designed to work alongside our OT in the initial phase, with the goal of transitioning into a more independent role over time, where you will directly support the child’s progress using strategies and techniques developed by the OT.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with Occupational Therapy Goals: Support activities designed to improve motor skills, coordination, sensory processing, and daily living skills as outlined by the OT.
Help with After-School Routines: Assist with transitioning from school to home, providing support with snacks, self-care routines, and relaxation.
Schoolwork Assistance: Offer support with homework, staying focused and organized while practicing fine motor skills (writing, drawing, etc.) where appropriate.
Engage in Activities: Participate in or facilitate therapeutic activities (e.g., exercises, games, sensory activities) to improve motor skills, coordination, and sensory regulation.
Promote Independence: Encourage our son to take responsibility for daily tasks to improve self-sufficiency and confidence.
Collaborate with OT and Family: Work closely with the OT to follow a treatment plan and provide feedback on progress. Maintain regular communication with the family to ensure consistency of care and support.
Qualifications:
Experience working with children, particularly those with additional needs.
Interest or experience in occupational therapy techniques, including fine/gross motor development and sensory processing.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate closely with an OT and family.
Patient, proactive, and reliable, with a genuine interest in helping children build independence and life skills.
Previous experience in education, caregiving, or therapy settings is an advantage.
First aid and CPR certification is desirable.
