The Opportunity
We are looking for a motivated Team Leader Ranger to join our Ranger and Emergency Services Team in Kununurra interpret, administer and comply with relevant legislation, Council Policies and Local Laws applicable to the functions of a local government Ranger and Emergency Services Team. This role also focuses on assisting with the supervision of the Rangers ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements as well as providing high standards of service to the organisation.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supervising the Shire’s team of Rangers, including mentoring, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and work instructions
- Ensuring compliance with the Dog Act 1976, Cat Act 2011, Control of Off-Road Vehicles Act 1978, Litter Act 1979, Caravan and Camping Grounds Act 1995, Bush Fire Act 1994, and Local Government Act
- Liaising with a range of customers and stakeholders including government departments and agencies, emergency services, animal welfare organisations, community groups, members of the public and Shire staff
- Carrying out duties in relation to animal control
- Undertaking fire break and property inspections to ensure compliance with the Bush Fires Act 1954, Regulations and Local Laws relating to firebreaks
- Undertaking Bushfire Control & Weather Officer duties in line with the Bush Fires Act 1954
- Undertaking community engagement and providing input into and undertaking educational programs for schools and community groups on aspects of Ranger Services
Relevant certifications in Firearms Handling and Safety, Reptile Handling and Capture, Regulatory Officer Compliance Skills (ROCS) Part 1&2, current unrestricted WA C Class Driver’s Licence, current Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B and ADT (Tetanus, Diphtheria and Whooping Cough), current National Police Check (dated within 6 months), and current Advanced First Aid certificate are essential for this role.
You will also need working knowledge of the Dog Act 1976, Cat Act 2011, Bush Fires Act 1954, Litter Act 1979 and Local Government Act 1995 and associated regulations and local laws. Strong organisational skills with demonstrated negotiation and conflict resolution skills, excellent time management skills, high attention to detail for document preparation, sound communication skills and work ethic with motivation to work in challenging environments, ability to work a rotating roster including on-call and weekends, and ability to travel between town sites within the Shire boundaries.
