About the role:

12 month temporary Senior Lawyer opportunity in the WorkCover team at Crown Law

Your key responsibilities:

• the provision of legal training to officers of client departments and Crown Law
• promoting Crown Law services to client departments
• the provision of specialist advice and guidance on questions of law and practice to client departments and other officers within the legal practice group
• liaising with officers of government departments, corporations and instrumentalities
• negotiating skilfully in tough situations, winning concessions without damaging relationships
• writing and communicating succinctly in a variety of settings to convey messages that will achieve a desired effect.

• Civil Liability Act 2003.

• Conduct a professional legal practice and undertake the range of legal work completed by the team.
• When required, provide supervision and guidance to other members of the practice in conduct of legal matters.
• As required, assist in:
• Participate in and maintain a proactive approach to self development
• Comply at all times with the office standards
• In addition to the relevant Workers' Compensation legislation, applicants should be familiar with or have knowledge of the following legislation:

• Have an extensive knowledge of the Uniform Civil Procedure Rules and be familiar with the rules of the Federal and High Court.

Skills & Experience:

To succeed in this role, you will have

• admission as a Legal Practitioner of the Supreme Court of Queensland;
• a minimum of 5 years relevant PAE experience
• working knowledge of Workers' Compensation legislation, as well be familiar with Personal Injuries Proceedings Act 2002, Motor Accident Insurance Act 1994 and Civil Liability Act 2003;
• strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to manage complex matters and client relationships; and
• demonstrated capacity to manage more complex files with minimal supervision.
