Civil Engineer with Coding Experience
We’re currently seeking a Civil Engineer with strong coding skills to join our team in Sydney. This role offers the chance to work on both new and ongoing projects, many of which involve Python-based tools and development.

Duties and responsibilities

• On a day-to-day basis, you will tackle the delivery of flood assessment on major Transport/Land/Water infrastructure/Dams/Energy projects across NSW/ACT.
• You will collaborate across disciplines internally and externally with clients and public authorities to address technical queries and drive an optimum engineering solution.
• You will conduct hydrological and hydraulic investigations and design for a wide range of projects through collaboration with other transport (road and rail), drainage, land development, dams, water resources advisory, and energy teams.
• Catchment hydrologic calculations and computer modelling.
• Overland flow calculations and computer modelling.
• Technical report writing.
• Lead the development of civil design solutions, including investigations, concept and detailed designs, specifications and cost estimates ensuring compliance with engineering standards.
• Manage and coordinate external Consultants where required to meet project milestones, budget expectations and project deliverables.
• Review, approve and sign off on design drawings, technical documents and cost estimates.
• Maintain positive relationships with various stakeholders both inside and outside the Council.
• Support annual program development and budget planning for design and investigation activities.

Mentor and support engineering and technical staff, encouraging professional development and upholding design standards within the team.

Your Skills and Experience
This role is ideal for a Civil Engineer experience in the water industry and coding skills. A background in statistical analysis and consulting will be highly regarded.
To be considered for the position, candidates should meet the following criteria:

• A Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
• Some experience in flood management, hydrology, and/or hydraulic modelling
• Proficiency in Python or R
• Ability to work effectively as part of a project team
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

The following qualifications and skills are considered highly desirable:

• Demonstrated interest and/or experience in flood-related projects
• Familiarity with hydrologic and hydraulic modelling software (e.g., WBNM, RORB, URBS, TUFLOW, Infoworks ICM)
• GIS skills using platforms such as ArcGIS, MapInfo, or QGIS
