We have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Building Officer to join the Building Services Branch at Yarra City Council.
The Building Services Branch forms a part of the City Sustainability and Strategy directorate, which has responsibility for the provision of a range of community safety and competitive services within the municipality.
The Branch currently comprises 14 professionals who provide a building surveying, building inspection, fire engineering and business support skill set to the organisation.
The Technical Building Officer will provide an efficient and pro-active Building Surveying & Inspection Service to internal and external customers, building professionals, ratepayers and owners.
The role encompasses the monitoring and assessment of compliance with relevant statutes and codes of practice, to ensure that building works within the municipality provide an acceptable level of health, safety, amenity and sustainability.
A major focus of the role is to review Report and Consent Applications, make appropriate safety recommendations and to review public protection measures.
The successful applicant will have:
- Relevant experience and work skills commensurate with the requirements of the work area, role and functions of the position.
- The completion or near completion of a relevant undergraduate degree in structural engineering, building surveying or building inspection, or an AQF Level 4-6 qualification in building constructions with relevant work skills.
- Experience in a responsible administration/technical role including working in a customer service environment essential.
- Experience in the building industry or with a building or structural engineering related background is desirable.
- A current motor vehicle driver’s licence is essential.
