About the Division
The purpose of the Disability division (the Division) is to protect, uphold and advance the rights of people with disability living in Western Australia (WA). The Division provides sector stewardship and strategic policy advice to inform disability matters between State and Commonwealth systems and drive the development of contemporary practices and sector innovation.
The Division is also responsible for critical services, strategic projects, negotiations, and reforms across the ministerial portfolio areas of disability services. It aims to support and achieve better outcomes for all people living with disability, ensuring substantive equality for all and that everyone can participate in their communities.
The Opportunity
As a Senior Policy Officer, you will play a key role in the development and implementation of initiatives which build and strengthen capacity across the Disability Services sector to enable the delivery of, and access to, high quality services for people with disability.
You will maintain a contemporary knowledge of the development and delivery of best practice strategies, policy, and legislative change in the areas of disability services.
With your ability to build productive relationships and communicate effectively you will provide strategic advice, as well as prepare reports, briefing notes, speeches, and correspondence relevant to the outputs of the Division and for a wide audience including Parliament, Ministers, the Director General and Assistant Director General.

This position will be based at the Department of Communities’ (Communities) new, purpose-built offices in Walyalup Koort, Fremantle.
Walyalup Koort is a great location close to the Fremantle Markets, various new cafes and eateries (click here to find out more) and a car park, as well as walking distance to the Fremantle train station and Bathers Beach.

There are currently five positions available for immediate filling as follows;
- Two (2) positions available for a period of 12 months with the possibility of extension.
- Two (2) positions available until April 2026 with the possibility of extension.
- One (1) position available for a period of 6-12 months with the possibility of extension.
Suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which appointments will be made for this or similar future vacancies (fixed term or permanent) that arise within the next 12 months across the Department of Communities.
