Position Profile

We are seeking a collaborative and hands-on leader with advanced clinical expertise to join our team at Perth Children’s Hospital as Manager – Social Work. This is a unique opportunity to lead and deliver high-quality, child and family-centred social work services across inpatient, outpatient, and emergency department settings.

Working in close partnership with the Head of Department, Social Work, you will lead our teams to deliver expert clinical care to children and families experiencing complex health and social challenges, providing clinical cover or support for your team as needed, including assessment and intervention work.

You will have opportunities to participate in service redesign and expansion, including the launch of the Allied Health Hospital in the Home (HiTH) model, development of advanced scope roles, and implementation of new systems and processes in response to legislative changes such as those impacting FDV.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading teams to planning and managing social work activities with a focus on delivering culturally safe, inclusive, and family-centred care.
  • Providing both clinical and professional leadership and mentoring, actively developing P1 and P2 social workers and emerging practitioners.
  • Contributing to recruitment, onboarding, supervision, and performance management of social work staff.
  • Supporting and coaching Social Work staff at all levels, fostering professional growth and clinical excellence.
  • Engaging in departmental and interagency committees and initiatives in alignment with hospital priorities and evolving service needs.
  • Participating in quality improvement planning, implementation and evaluation of services, policies and procedures.
  • Championing a strong social work identity within the hospital and promoting its essential role within multidisciplinary care teams.

Please note a tertiary qualification in Social Work and eligibility for full membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers is a requirement for this role.

Relevant experience in working with children and families will be highly regarded however applicants with relevant experience adult care will be provided the opportunity for support and education to translate your knowledge to a paediatric setting.

About our Department:

Based at Perth Children’s Hospital, our dedicated team of Social Workers, Aboriginal Health Liaison Officers and Welfare Officers offer a wide range of services to inpatients and outpatients from birth to 16 years of age.

Designed to assist families in managing the practical, personal, and emotional impacts of illness, disability, and hospitalisation, our comprehensive services include specialist counselling and crisis assistance, advocacy for patient needs, education, liaison with other services and referral to community-based resources.

Health issues can deeply impact the emotional and social well-being of children and their families. As part of a holistic approach to each child’s care, we work closely with a medical, nursing, and allied health professionals to assess needs and provide compassionate support.

We believe that every child deserves the best possible start in life, and at times we continue to work with some families even after they leave the hospital, which includes travelling to support rural and regionally based out-patients.
