About the Role:
This position based at Ravenhall Correctional Centre in Melbourne's west, provides 75 prison-based custodial mental health beds as well as assessments and outpatient services provided in maximum-security forensic mental health complex within the medium-security prison.
The Senior Social Worker works with the social work discipline leads and educators to develop, plan and implement prison-based social work services to achieve and maintain a high standard of consumer care, consistent with the Forensicare Model of Care.
As the Senior Social Worker you will:
- Develop and maintain consultative relationships with key stakeholders including RCC staff, other healthcare professionals, and external mental health, welfare, justice and social support agencies.
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills in recording and reporting information to the multidisciplinary team.
- Build and maintain therapeutic relationships with consumers that respect consumer choices, experiences and circumstances; enhancing strengths, hope and resilience in the promotion of Recovery.
- Provide support and education to carers / significant others in the ongoing treatment and care of consumers.
About You:
To be successful in this position, you will have sound knowledge of legislation relevant to the target population, a demonstrated ability to provide high-level leadership, management and supervision of staff and students.
You will have demonstrated experience in delivering specialist social work services including clinical, primary, secondary and tertiary consultation within a complex and dynamic environment. And proven skills and experience in developing and implementing complex case plans involving direct and indirect social work practice.
What you will need:
- Approved degree in Social Work.
- Eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.

Forensicare (Victorian Institute of Forensic Mental Health) is the state-wide specialist provider of forensic mental health services in Victoria. Forensicare is the only agency in Victoria that provides clinical forensic mental health services which span all components of the mental health and criminal justice sectors – giving Forensicare a unique perspective on mental health and public safety issues.
