City of Gold Coast
Posted 1 day ago
This is an exciting opportunity to bring your passion, expertise and experience providing specialist guidance and expertise in heritage to the City’s capital and operational work program to ensure the City’s land use activities do not harm cultural heritage.
About the team
This important position sits within the heritage compliance work stream in the Heritage and First Nations team – a high-performing group of professionals that deliver quality protection, conservation, compliance, and First Nations services and expertise for the City. You’ll join a supportive and committed group passionate about heritage values, sustainability, and meaningful partnerships.
About your new role
As Senior Heritage Compliance Advisor, your specialist advice and support will ensure that the City’s project activities do not harm cultural heritage in compliance with statutory obligations and stakeholder expectations. You’ll lead the City's cultural heritage risk management service and coordinate heritage work programs across diverse infrastructure projects. The role is largely office-based, with hybrid flexibility and occasional fieldwork.
Some of your responsibilities will include:
Fulfil the role of Senior Heritage Compliance Advisor on multiple project delivery teams, providing cultural heritage risk assessments, advice, and management services across planning, design, construction and maintenance phases.
Promote and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including consultants, Aboriginal parties and technical advisors.
Provide information and advice on relevant legislation, policies, and cultural heritage management requirements.
Develop and implement improved systems, procedures, and tools to enhance cultural heritage management performance.
Design and deliver internal cultural heritage awareness training packages.
We are looking for people who have:
A Bachelor degree in a relevant cultural heritage practice (archaeology, cultural heritage management, anthropology).
At least 2 years of industry experience in relevant cultural heritage management.
Technical archaeological skills and demonstrated experience conducting Aboriginal cultural heritage assessments and survey for risk management.
Experience providing detailed technical and statutory advice on Aboriginal cultural heritage matters.
Strong understanding of Queensland heritage legislation and cultural heritage compliance best practice principles and their application in infrastructure delivery.
Demonstrated experience preparing quality technical reports, management, and mitigation strategies.
Ability to apply expertise to analyse information, make effective decisions and problem solve.
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
The ability to work independently and within a team environment, and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
A current Class C Driver’s Licence.
Why this role?
This is a rare opportunity to combine purpose and profession. You’ll directly influence how the City preserves and respects Aboriginal cultural heritage while helping to shape sustainable infrastructure outcomes. You’ll be supported by heritage professionals, embedded in a values-led department, and given the tools to grow your impact.
