Southern Highlands Addiction Retreat (SHAR), located in Canyonleigh, NSW is a private drug and alcohol residential rehabilitation facility which opened in April 2024. We are seeking a compassionate and experienced General Practitioner with an interest in mental health to join our dedicated team for two days a week. As a leading provider of addiction recovery services, we are committed to providing comprehensive medical care to support our guests on their journey to wellness.
About Us:
Situated on a picturesque 40-hectare property, Southern Highlands Addiction Retreat offers a peaceful environment for individuals seeking recovery from addiction. Our holistic approach addresses mental, emotional, psychological, spiritual and physical well-being.
We have also owned and operated Gunnebah Addiction Retreat in Northern NSW for the past nine years. Our Doctor, Jennifer Parer, is the co-owner of both retreats and will be available to help establish and support this role.
The Role:
As the On-Site Doctor (General Practitioner) at SHAR, you will be responsible for providing medical care and support to our guests, addressing their general physical and mental health needs, and facilitating any necessary medical requirements. This includes conducting health assessments, prescribing medications, monitoring treatment progress, and coordinating with external healthcare providers as needed. Your expertise, empathy, and commitment to delivering high-quality care will be integral to the well-being and recovery of our guests.
It is a relaxed role without time pressures and accordingly is highly rewarding.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct comprehensive medical assessments of guests upon admission and throughout their stay which is a minimum of 28 days.
Provide medical consultations and treatment for general health concerns, including managing chronic conditions, prescribing medications, and addressing general medical issues.
Collaborate with our multidisciplinary team to develop individualised treatment plans tailored to the unique needs of each guest.
Supervise alcohol and other drugs withdrawal management in low-risk patients only. Any high-risk or complicated withdrawals would be conducted off-site in hospital prior to admission.
Monitor and review guest progress, adjusting treatment plans as necessary to ensure optimal outcomes.
Educate guests on health-related topics, including addiction recovery, preventive care, and lifestyle modifications.
Maintain accurate medical records and documentation in accordance with regulatory requirements and best practices.
Coordinate with external healthcare providers, specialists, and allied health professionals to facilitate continuity of care and referrals as needed.
Requirements:
Full registration as a General Practitioner with the Medical Board of Australia.
Demonstrated experience working in a primary care or general practice setting, with a focus on providing comprehensive medical care to diverse patient populations.
Strong clinical skills and proficiency in conducting medical assessments, diagnosing health conditions, and prescribing medications.
Have an interest in Mental Health and/ or Addiction Medicine.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and establish trusting relationships with guests.
