About us

Corrections Victoria is committed to the delivery of responsive and culturally appropriate services that meet the objectives of the department's Aboriginal Justice Agreements.

Corrections and Justice Services understands that to reduce the overrepresentation of Aboriginal people in the justice system and to achieve a reduction in the rate of reoffending, unique strategies and initiatives must be implemented. Through its long standing commitment to the Aboriginal Justice Agreement, the Aboriginal Social and Emotional Wellbeing Plan, the Koori Inclusion Action Plan and in partnership with the Victorian Aboriginal community, Corrections and Justice Services has developed this unique Aboriginal Case Manager role.

About the role

The unique purpose of this role is that it will be responsible for developing and implementing cultural support plans for Aboriginal clients and working with Aboriginal justice networks to identify appropriate support to strengthen case management outcomes for clients.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • the ability to effectively engage with local support services and the Koori Court in the case management of individuals
  • an understanding of the Victorian Aboriginal Community, both socially and culturally, and the issues impacting on it
  • an understanding of, or experience in, effective case management practices including proactively managing risk of complex individuals
  • an understanding of, or experience in, modelling pro-social behaviours, with the ability to motivate and influence individuals who are being case managed
