Position Overview
We are seeking a results-driven Business Development Manager to lead growth in the mining sector, with a focus on structural steel solutions. This role is responsible for identifying new market opportunities, building strategic client relationships, and driving revenue growth. Working closely with internal teams, the BDM will develop and execute business strategies that expand our presence in the mining industry and ensure long-term commercial success.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Market Development & Opportunity Governance
Lead the identification and pursuit of new structural steel supply and erection opportunities within the mining and resources sector.
Build strategic pursuit plans focused on Tier 1 & 2 mining companies, EPCMs, and key contractors.
Implement governance frameworks for managing bids, tenders, and pre-qualification processes.
Promote alignment of structural steel capacity, capability, and delivery models with evolving client and project demands.
Revenue, Value & Growth Accountability
Drive revenue growth through acquisition of structural steel contracts for fixed plant infrastructure, processing facilities, conveyor systems, and other mining-related works.
Lead pricing strategy development and ensure proposals meet commercial and margin targets.
Monitor project pipeline performance and adjust pursuit strategies based on win/loss analysis.
Ensure steel fabrication, erection capabilities, and delivery timelines are accurately represented in all tender responses.
Work with estimating and project delivery teams to balance cost competitiveness with delivery feasibility.
Leadership & Sales Team Enablement
Mentor junior BDMs, estimators, or support staff involved in sales and proposal preparation.
Coordinate internal resources (estimating, drafting, procurement) to support major mining tenders.
Foster a high-performance sales culture that emphasises safety, reliability, and operational excellence in delivery.
Set and track KPIs related to sales targets, tender submissions, and client engagement frequency.
Risk, Competitor & Opportunity Management
Conduct risk assessments of potential projects, with a focus on client financials, location logistics, safety standards, and schedule feasibility.
Stay informed on competitor activity, market pricing, fabrication capacity, and delivery reputation across the mining supply chain.
Maintain a live opportunity register and risk dashboard for all active and upcoming mining tenders.
Proactively de-risk project pursuit strategies by aligning with proven subcontractors, logistics providers, and site teams.
Client & Stakeholder Relationship Management
Build and maintain strong relationships with mining clients, EPCMs, and construction managers to secure repeat business and preferred supplier status.
Serve as the senior escalation and negotiation point during tender and contract discussions.
Collaborate with internal project and fabrication teams to ensure alignment between client expectations and delivery capability.
Engage with key external stakeholders such as logistics providers and safety consultants' partners as required by client procurement standards.
Reporting, CRM & Strategic Insights
Maintain accurate and up-to-date client, project, and pipeline data in the company’s CRM system.
Prepare and present monthly BD performance reports, including revenue forecast, and tender status updates.
Use CRM analytics and feedback from tenders to drive continuous improvement in pursuit strategy and client targeting.
Leverage insights from industry events, client feedback, and market shifts to shape business positioning in the mining structural steel space.
