About the Role

As the Insurance and Risk Officer, you’ll play a key role in maintaining Council’s insurance program and supporting the implementation of our Risk Management Framework. You will coordinate claims, manage renewals, support risk initiatives, and contribute to improving safety, compliance, and performance across the organisation.

What You'll Be Doing

Manage Council’s insurance claims process and correspondence with insurers, legal representatives, and internal stakeholders

Coordinate annual insurance renewals ensuring data accuracy and alignment with Council’s assets and risks

Provide expert advice on insurance and risk-related matters

Maintain and enhance Council’s risk registers and assist in delivering risk management training and support

Assist in preparing reports, handling financial transactions, and supporting Council’s audit and quality assurance functions

Foster strong relationships with internal teams and external providers

What We're Looking For

Qualifications in business/administration or demonstrated experience in insurance and/or risk management (or willingness to obtain)

Sound knowledge of insurance, risk management, and organisational systems

Excellent communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills

Strong planning and time management capabilities

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with database systems

A current Queensland C class driver licence (minimum provisional)

Desirable: Local government experience and knowledge of Council operations.
