Fuse Recruitment are parenting with a well-established Compliance and testing Engineering firm based in Western Sydney. We are seeking detail-oriented QA Machinists to join their Quality Assurance and testing team. This hands-on role involves performing structural and durability testing of glass windows, doors, and balustrades, ensuring all products meet relevant Australian Standards and project-specific requirements.
This role is also open to trainees that are willing to learn the ropes!
THE CLIENT:
An Australian leader in compliance testing and engineering, providing independent, accredited technical services. Their core operations include:
- Industrial design and engineering: Crafting testing methods that ensure safety, durability, impact testing and compliance for a wide range of products and systems
- Mechanical performance testing: This includes load, cycle, impact, and corrosion testing, as well as wind and water penetration assessments for components like windows, doors, scaffolding, ladders, Balustrades and safety barriers
- Accreditation under ISO/IEC 17025 (NATA): Operates a NATA?accredited lab capable of testing to Australian and international standards, assuring reliability and global recognition
- Safety and compliance certification: Evaluating products such as security screens, edge protection, fencing, glazing, and structural framing to ensure they meet regulatory standards
- Regional reach: Serving clients across Australia and the wider Asia-Pacific region, they support manufacturers and suppliers in achieving certification and market access

THE OPPORTUNITY:
These roles would highly suit trades people looking to get out of the weather and into a work shop environment or current machinists / QA officers looking to utilise their current skillsets in roles that require utilisation of their creative thinking abilities!
This role is also open to trainees that are willing to learn the ropes!
These permanent opportunities are ones not to be missed! Just some of the testing rigs you will utilise include the following:
- Winch testing – to test flexibility of glass windows
- Wrecking ball testing – to test durability of household security doors
- Cannons! (you read that correct!) to fire ball bearings at glass windows to test durability simulation of hail stones hitting windows during cyclones
- Corrosion testing – for Windows and doors of homes located near the ocean
- Knife testing – for security mesh door penetration tests
- Water and air tight testing – for windows and doors to simulate rain and weather durability
- Kid safe Pool fence testing – to test security latches of pool fences and gates through thousands of uses
- Door hinge testing – to test the durability of door hinges through thousands of uses
THE ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Set up and operate mechanical testing rigs and hydraulic equipment to perform load, impact, and cyclic durability testing on glass products.
- Operate Ban saws, hand power tools. Timber saws and drills to cut timber to length to create frames for materials to be held in testing rigs
- Conduct testing procedures in accordance with AS 1288, AS 2208, and related Australian and international standards.
- Prepare test specimens, fixtures, and jigs based on engineering and shop drawings.
- Record and analyze test data, prepare detailed quality and performance reports, and flag non-conformances.
- Maintain and calibrate testing equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability.
- Support quality investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive actions.
- Assist in continuous improvement initiatives within the testing department.
- Work closely with production, design, and installation teams to uphold product compliance and safety.
- Follow all WHS procedures and use PPE when handling glass panels and large assemblies
THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE:
- At least 2 years of experience in mechanical testing or quality assurance duties, ideally in a manufacturing, (Timber or Glass preferred) or construction-related industry. However our client is willing to train candidates with the right attitude!
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Previous experience operating Ban saws, hand and power tools and manual drilling equipment
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and work with a range of testing instruments.
- High level of attention to detail and accurate data entry/reporting skills.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work within a small but fast-paced testing team.
- Physically fit and comfortable working around large glass units and test rigs
- Proven attention to detail and commitment to safety
- A reliable team player with a can-do attitude
- Excellent communication, time management, teamwork, and commitment to quality
- Excellent teamwork skills and ability to maintain a hands-on approach when required.
- Knowledge of WH&S requirements within a production environment.
- Demonstrated understanding of Work, Health and Safety
Desirable:
- Certificate III/IV in Engineering – Mechanical Trade (or equivalent)
- Familiarity with Australian testing standards including
- An understanding of test methodologies for structural timber or glass.
- LF Forklift license
- Over Head Crane operating experience
