Classification Grade: Legal Officer Grade IV (LOG IV)

Salary: $144,058 - $146,831 p.a. base salary (with superannuation and annual leave loading paid in addition to the base salary)

Work type: Full – Time - 35 hours per week, 12 months with a possibility of extension or conversion to ongoing.

Location: Our primary place of work is the CSO Office located at 60-70 Elizabeth Street, Sydney.

*Please note we will be relocating to a new premises located at Parkline Place, 252 Pitt Street, Sydney in July 2026.

About the Role

The CSO provides comprehensive legal services to the NSW Government, and Senior Solicitors play a crucial role in service provision. In advocacy, our solicitors represent government agencies in courts and tribunals to ensure their interests are effectively defended. In litigation, solicitors manage complex legal disputes, providing strategic advice and representation to achieve favourable outcomes. In advice work, solicitors offer expert legal opinions and guidance on a wide range of issues, helping government agencies navigate legal complexities and make informed decisions.

About the Practice Group

The Public Interest & Protection practice group advises and represents NSW Government agencies in public interest immunity claims in criminal and civil matters across all State and Commonwealth jurisdictions, the Attorney General in relation to the administration of charitable trusts, the Public Guardian and NSW Trustee and Guardian in guardianship matters, and various NSW Government agencies in discrimination matters (including class actions).

Solicitors with either criminal or civil law backgrounds, with strong litigation and legal analysis skills and the ability to work and adapt in a fast-paced environment, are encouraged to apply.

We are looking for solicitors who have 3+ years of post-admission experience.

Essential requirements

· Candidate must be an Australian Citizen.

· Completion of a law degree from an accredited law school or completion of the Legal Practitioners Admission Board’s Diploma in Law course.

· Developed legal skills and experience which enable the provision of advice and representation in legal matters in areas of law in which the Crown Solicitor specialises.

· Admission or eligibility for admission as a legal practitioner in NSW.
