We are looking for a fit, self-motivated person to join our small team of transport depot workers in Laidley, Qld. This person would be a support to the two yard managers and would be responsible for maintaining the yard and transport equipment in a neat and manageable order, monitoring and keeping records of equipment stocks, ensuring equipment is in good condition and compliant to legal heavy vehicle standards, advising when replacements and repairs are required and assisting the managers in preparing heavy vehicles for loading and outward bound long-distance deliveries.

This person will need to have a fair degree of physical fitness and be prepared to assist with manual tasks. Other attributes would be as follows:

- Good communication skills

- Ability to work independently and sometimes without supervision as well as with a small number of others, sometimes under pressure to ensure that the load schedules are met.

- Flexible and motivated, with a willingness to learn new skills within the road transport industry

- A neat and tidy disposition

- Reliable and prompt

- Some mechanical experience with hand and machine tools

- Forklift skills an advantage but the successful candidate will be trained in forklift use for loading and unloading trucks.

- Car driver licence preferable and any truck licence, from MR (Medium Rigid) to HC (Heavy Combination) would be a great advantage and attract a higher pay rate. Medium Rigid drivers would also be able to pick up and deliver small amounts of freight, collect parts for the workshop, transport used tyres for disposal and pick up new tyres. HC drivers would also be able to assist with loading trailers, local hourly jobs where applicable, short distance deliveries and dog runs for the road train drivers.

Specific duties:

- Keeping the yard and stock in neat and tidy order

- Checking integrity of restraining equipment (chains, ratchet straps, signage, angles, tarpaulins, sheets of carpet and plastic etc), tyres and other stock to ensure all vehicles are compliant and correctly equipped

- Maintaining stock records

- Assisting with loading and unloading trailers when required

- Washing trucks and trailers where required

- Assisting yard managers and drivers with certain maintenance and repairs

- Dealing with inward and outward deliveries

Position primarily part-time, casual, with opportunities for full-time and permanent. Hours to suit both parties. Pay weekly on hourly rate.
