The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health Ltd was established by its founding members to provide a coordinated/integrated approach to the planning, development and delivery of comprehensive primary health care services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations within the Southeast Qld Region.
The Goodna Clinic was established in 2014 in response to the large and unmet health and related needs of a large and growing population of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the Goodna region.
About the Role?
The position is responsible for specialist community and primary health nursing services that focuses on the prevention, early detection and management of health problems for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. As a member of a multi-disciplinary team ensure effective screening, service delivery and administration practices are delivered in accordance with the IUIH Model of Care. The role will entail service delivery from designated primary clinic locations and outreach services, under limited supervision, as required.
Day to Day Duties may Include:
- Provide day to day health service activities to the designated communities within the context of Primary Health Care in a professional, confidential and culturally safe manner
- Provide effective first point of medical engagement including, triage assessments, taking of medical history/detail, assignment of patient, completion of preliminary procedures
- Provide routine screening services to patients including blood pressures, blood sugar levels, temperatures, urine testing (routine and pregnancy tests), weight, length and head circumference (in children under three).
- Provide treatment and care to patient under the direction of the doctor including immunization of children under five years old against childhood diseases as by the doctor.
- Work with the business Partnership of Birthing in Our Community to provide holistic care to clients and extended family Community members
- Assist with identifying families to engage with the specialized services offered at the Hub
About You?
- AHPRA Registration
- Bachelor of Nursing
- Current CPR Certificate (Or willing to obtain)
- Current C Class Drivers Licence (Qld)
Desirable, but not mandatory:
· Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and /or communities
