Our client, a complex Queensland Government Department, are currently seeking a Senior Project Manager for their Data Modernisation Project. The Project will establish and transition to a new Enterprise Data Platform based on Microsoft Fabric using best practice foundations and enabling analytical and reporting activities in the new platform.As Senior Project Manager, you will be accountable for leading and managing the Data Modernisation Project to:

• Establish a modern data environment including data lifecycle management within a simplified data architecture.
• Implement appropriate support, tooling and technology.
• Formalise data governance activities.
• Elevate data literacy across the department.
• Establish ‘best practice’ foundations across the new platform.

The ideal candidate will possess exceptional leadership and project management skills within a data management modernisation environment. This individual should demonstrate the ability to effectively manage a data management project’s scope and stakeholder expectations.

As Senior Project Manager it is expected that you will have high emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills to work with executive leaders, vendors, ICT teams and other concurrent modernisation projects. You will ensure timely delivery within predefined scope, time and budget constraints. The teamThe Data and Analytics business unit is responsible for leading the work of data collection, data management and data analysis. This involves both internal and external data sources, and using skills and knowledge in varying technologies such as SQL, Excel and Power BI. Data and Analytics plays a key role in supporting organisation-wide reporting, by collating and managing data sources, and understanding and locating what data is available.

As the Data Modernisation Senior Project Manager, you will specifically:

• Manage and lead the full project lifecycle, scope, goals and objectives of the project to ensure a robust Enterprise Data Platform is established over the next two years. Ensuring timeframes and deliverables meet Modernisation and Transformation (legacy replacement) project requirements and dependencies. Support transition to the new data analytics operational patterns (i.e. use of Microsoft Fabric and provision of curated data sets).
• Facilitate clear and effective communication channels between project team members, stakeholders, and senior management. This includes providing regular updates on project progress, addressing stakeholder concerns, and managing expectations to ensure alignment with project objectives and outcomes
• Develop and maintain essential project artefacts, including but not limited to, project plans, schedules, status reports, and project Risk, Issue, Action, Decision, and Dependency logs. Ensuring appropriate and consistent documentation maintained through development to allow for handover to business as usual.
• Coordinate cross-functional teams, including IT, business stakeholders, and third-party vendors, to ensure successful project delivery. Foster a collaborative and high-performance team environment, encouraging continuous development and excellence among team members.
• Monitor and report on project progress, quality assurance activities, ensuring timely and cost-effective completion by efficiently managing project budgets, financials, and resources.
• Proactively identify, assess, and address project risks and challenges, implementing mitigation strategies to minimise the impact of potential risks on project deliverables, timelines, and budget.
• Provide strategic thinking, innovation, and negotiation to enable the delivery of high-quality solutions or stakeholder outcomes. Enhance overall Data Modernisation Project effectiveness and goals by leveraging, adjusting, and identifying connections to other work.
• Promote and apply appropriate project management techniques, methodologies, and tools, including benefits realisation and risk and issue management, to ensure quality project outcomes. Leveraging innovative and data-driven solutions in line with program architecture.

Role requirements

• Proven Track Record: Demonstrated success in managing and delivering similar projects with a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Project Manager. Must include end to end management of the full project lifecycle including transition to BAU.
• Relevant Technical Competences: Experience in data platform architecture, design and development. Demonstrated understanding of data modelling and master data management principles and processes within an enterprise data environment.
• Project Management Certification and bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or Business Administration highly desired.
