The Employment Training Mentor supports CALD (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse) participants in NT to develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence they need to enter or re-enter the workforce. The Mentor provides one-on-one guidance, motivation, practical advice, and encouragement, helping mentees set realistic goals and navigate job search challenges.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Goal Setting & Guidance
Work with mentees to identify strengths, interests, and employment goals.
Assist mentees in developing realistic action plans for training, job search, and career development.
Practical Skills Support
Provide guidance on resume and cover letter writing.
Support preparation for job applications, interviews, and workplace expectations.
Share knowledge of local job markets, industries, and employment pathways.
Motivation & Confidence Building
Offer encouragement and constructive feedback.
Help mentees build confidence, resilience, and self-esteem.
Act as a positive role model for professional behaviour.
Monitoring & Communication
Maintain regular contact with mentees through agreed check-ins (in-person, online, or phone).
Keep basic records of mentoring sessions and progress (as required by the program).
Communicate any concerns or significant progress to the Program Coordinator.
Networking & Referral
Where appropriate, connect mentees with further training, job leads, or other community resources.
Encourage participation in workshops, networking events, or group sessions.
Compliance & Professionalism
Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards.
Respect the cultural, social, and personal circumstances of each mentee.
Follow organisational policies and safeguarding guidelines.
Attend any initial and ongoing training sessions or meetings required by the program.

Commitment to empowering others and working within program guidelines.
Qualifications & Experience
Previous experience in mentoring, coaching, HR, training, or employment support (formal or informal).
Understanding of barriers to employment faced by target participants (e.g., long-term unemployed, migrants, women returning to work, young people (from CALD background).
Relevant background in education, career guidance, community services, or workforce development.
Mentors from HR, Finance, Accounting, Marketing, Engineering, Hospitality, Healthcare backgrounds are required.
