The Role:

  • Provide specialist telephone and face-to-face counselling, support, and advice to clients of screening and assessment services.
  • Responsible for the maintenance, quality and consistency of electronic records regarding client counselling.
  • Deliver counselling services to a high level of proficiency in a population screening environment.
  • Ensure clinical and psychosocial information flows to general practitioners and other relevant clinical personnel providing care for BreastScreen Tasmania clients and clients of interstate BreastScreen services.
  • Liaise with other clinical, nursing and Allied Health Professional staff within the multidisciplinary team.
  • Assist in training and supervision of less experienced staff and participate in continuing personal professional development in accordance with professional registration requirements, to maintain, improve and broaden knowledge, expertise and competence

You will need:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and demonstrated proficient clinical/professional knowledge, skills and experience in the practice of counselling, social work or psychology.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of counselling services in a contemporary population screening and assessment setting, or the ability to acquire.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, communication, problem solving and counselling skills.

Details of appointment:

Fixed term full time, day worker, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible until 6 March 2026.

Fixed term, casual, position working as and when required, commencing as soon as possible until 6 March 2026.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $110,425 to $121,907 per annum pro rata. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

Plus 25% Casual Loading - Equivalent of $69.58 to $76.82 per hour.

  • None of the salary benefits apply for Casual Appointments.
  • Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement No. 2 of 2022

Salary Packaging:

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.

Allowances:

  • Please note that access to salaries beyond $119,290 is subject to qualifications and/or application to the personal upgrade scheme

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • Professional Development Allowance of up to $1000 per annum

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.

The applicant must meet one of the following essential requirements:

Counsellor

  • Tertiary qualification/program of study accredited by the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia or Australian Counselling Association Accredited Training Standards
  • Eligible for membership with Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia or the Australian Counselling Association

Psychologist

  • Tertiary qualification/program of study approved by the Psychology Board of Australia
  • Registered with the Psychology Board of Australia

Social Worker

  • Tertiary qualification/program of study approved by the Australian Association of Social Workers
  • Full member of the Australian Association of Social Workers; or
  • Eligible for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers [choose one option depending on whether the role must meet external regulatory requirements ie NDIS Q&S Commission].
  • Overseas qualified Social Work candidates require a “certification of eligibility” letter from the AASW to confirm their eligibility for membership to the AASW

*Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer if a registration/licence is revoked, cancelled or has its conditions altered.
