About Us:
Located in the picturesque city of Cairns, Ausbarge Marine Services is a leader in providing comprehensive maritime solutions to the marine heavy industry. We specialise in barge operations and are currently seeking a highly skilled Master to manage and manoeuvre numerous barges, perform tug assists, and lead deck operations to ensure smooth and efficient services.
Position Overview:
We are looking for an experienced and reliable dual ticket Master/MED for numerous barges, who will oversee safe navigation and operations while playing a pivotal role in barge labour. This position requires a strong maritime background and active involvement in barge and deck activities to maintain operational excellence and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Barge Operation: Manoeuvre and operate a C-class tug & barges, including navigating through various conditions and executing docking and undocking procedures.
- Barge Labor & Deck Support: Lead and participate in deck operations, including handling and securing cargo, assisting with loading and unloading, and performing routine maintenance tasks.
- Safety Management: Enforce and adhere to all maritime safety regulations, conduct safety drills, and ensure that all safety equipment is maintained and operational.
- Crew Coordination: Supervise and manage the crew on board, fostering effective communication and teamwork. Provide leadership and guidance as needed.
- Client Service: Maintain high standards of service for clients, addressing any concerns or requests promptly and professionally.
- Log Keeping: Accurately maintain logs and reports of barge and vessel operations, including navigational details, crew activities, and safety checks.
- Maintenance: Oversee routine maintenance and minor repairs on the tug & barge, coordinating with shore-based support for more complex issues.
Qualifications:
- Valid AMSA Master <24M NC or higher certificate.
- Valid AMSA Marine Engine Driver (MED) 3 or higher certificate.
- Proven experience operating large vessels or barges, with a strong understanding of barge manoeuvring and operations.
- Solid knowledge of maritime safety regulations and best practices.
- Competence in barge labour and deck support tasks, including cargo handling and basic maintenance.
- Strong leadership and crew management skills.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
- Flexibility to work varied hours, including weekends.
