About the role

As a Master 5 or Coxswain at TORRES STRAIT TOURS PTY LIMITED, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining vessels that provide passenger transport services in the Thursday Island region of Queensland. In this full-time role, you will play a crucial part in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the company's maritime transport services.

What you'll be doing

Safely operate and manoeuvre vessels, ensuring the comfort and safety of passengers

Conduct pre-departure checks and maintain detailed logs of voyages

Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of vessels to keep them in optimal condition

Monitor and respond to weather conditions and other environmental factors that may impact operations

Assist passengers with boarding and disembarking as needed

Ensure compliance with all relevant maritime regulations and safety protocols

Work collaboratively with the broader operations team to deliver high-quality transport services

Instruct deckhands

What we're looking for

A current Coxswain Certificate of Competency plus MED3 or MED2

Master 5 with MED 2 or 3

Demonstrated experience in the operation and maintenance of passenger vessels

Strong navigation and boat handling skills, with a keen eye for detail

Excellent communication and customer service skills to liaise with passengers

A commitment to safety and the ability to respond effectively to emergencies

Familiarity with the local Thursday Island region and its waterways

A positive, reliable and team-oriented approach to work

Ability to supervise and manage onboard staff
