The Opportunity:

  • PW5 $74,742 - $80,407 per annum pro rata + 12% super + leave loading (dependent on qualifications and experience)

The Finance Department at Holmesglen plays a critical role in managing the Institute’s financial operations, including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable and financial reporting. The department is responsible for ensuring that all financial transactions are processed efficiently, accurately and in compliance with relevant regulations and internal procedures. Through its comprehensive management of financial operations, the team ensures that the Institute's financial resources are effectively allocated and utilised to support the delivery of high-quality education services.

The Senior Payroll Officer holds a vital position within the payroll function. This role is responsible for ensuring that employee remuneration is calculated correctly and disbursed in accordance with established schedules and organisational policies. Working closely with the Payroll Manager, the Senior Payroll Officer plays a key role in meeting fortnightly payroll deadlines, ensuring compliance with relevant legislative requirements and maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of payroll data. This position requires meticulous attention to detail and a proactive approach to resolving payroll discrepancies to uphold employee trust and organisational standards.

As a Senior Payroll Officer, you will:

  • Ensure the accurate processing and payment of salaries for all Holmesglen staff. This involves verifying that all salary calculations comply with relevant industrial awards, Enterprise Bargaining Agreements (EBAs) and applicable legislative requirements. This role is required to maintain an up-to-date knowledge of any changes to awards or agreements to guarantee ongoing compliance and accuracy.
  • Provide vital support to the Payroll Manager in meeting strict fortnightly payroll deadlines, ensuring that all staff are paid correctly and promptly on scheduled pay days. This requires effective coordination, thorough review of payroll data and timely resolution of any discrepancies that may arise during the payroll cycle.
  • Prepare detailed payroll reports and spreadsheets for review by the Payroll Manager and Finance Manager. This includes ensuring that all documentation is accurate, comprehensive, and delivered within the agreed timeframes. These reports support financial planning, audit requirements and internal control processes.
  • Manage the preparation, verification and processing of staff reimbursements and travel expense claims. This includes ensuring all payments are made accurately and in accordance with organisational policies and specified timelines.
  • Conduct regular reconciliations of employee pay and superannuation records to ensure consistency and accuracy across all payroll and financial systems. This includes posting journal entries as required and maintaining meticulous records to support financial reporting and regulatory compliance.

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • Diploma in a related field (eg Business, Accounting, Finance etc.)
  • WWCC and Police Check: Appointment to this position is dependent on obtaining an ‘employee’ Working with Children Check, and a valid Police Check within the last 12 months.
  • Prior experience in a senior payroll role in a large organisation. This includes experience in applying payroll processes and procedures to ensure the accurate and timely payment of staff.
  • Experience interpreting and applying complex Enterprise bargaining agreements (EBAs) to ensure accurate staff payments.
  • Prior experience using TechOne or the ADP payroll system (highly desirable).
  • Objectively analyse and evaluate available data, points of view, needs of stakeholders and potential solutions before recommending relevant actions or decisions.
