Job Title: Mental Health Support Worker - Male

Location: Wollert, VIC
Employment Type: Casual (Contractor ABN) with the possibility of part-time positions
Salary: Competitive Hourly Rate (Based on qualifications and experience)

About the Role

Auslife Disability Care is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Mental Health Support Worker to support a male NDIS participant with intellectual disability, ADHD, hearing disorder, and schizoaffective disorder. He is a 30 year old and leads a busy and engaging routine that includes attending university, exploring new places, and taking part in activities that he enjoy.

Your role will involve in accompanying him to university, and ensuring he returns home safely. You’ll also join him on community outings, as he enjoys sightseeing and visiting new places. He needs supervision at all times. He requires close monitoring for road and personal safety, and support with emotional regulation. You’ll also help maintain a steady daily routine that includes meals, hygiene, and gentle prompting where needed.

The ideal candidate will have experience supporting individuals with complex mental health conditions, particularly those involving psychosocial disabilities, challenging behaviours, and reduced motivation. Your role is crucial in creating a stable and structured environment, ensuring safety, and promoting well-being.

Key Responsibilities

Personal Care & Daily Living Support: Assist with hygiene, prompting self-care routines, and ensuring a safe living environment.

Behavioural & Emotional Support: Implement de-escalation strategies, trauma-informed care, and behaviour management plans to support the participant during emotional distress.

Household & Meal Assistance: Support with light cleaning, laundry, and meal preparation while promoting independent living skills.

Medication & Health Support: Encourage and monitor medication compliance and accompany the participant to medical appointments if needed.

Community & Social Engagement: Encourage participation in social and recreational activities, assisting in building confidence and meaningful connections.

Risk & Crisis Management: Be vigilant in recognising safety concerns, mitigating risks, and following appropriate incident response procedures.

Companionship & Emotional Well-being: Foster a trusting and supportive relationship to help reduce anxiety and social isolation.

Requirements

Qualifications: Certificate III or IV in Mental Health, Disability, Individual Support, or Community Services (or relevant experience).

Experience: Prior experience supporting individuals with schizoaffective disorder, schizophrenia, or complex mental health conditions is highly desirable.

Driver’s License: A valid Australian driver’s license and a reliable vehicle (preferred).

Clearances & Certifications:

NDIS Worker Screening Check (Required)

Working with Children Check (Required)

First Aid & CPR Certification (Required)

National Police Check (Required)

Skills: Strong communication, patience, empathy, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.

Preferred: Experience with positive behaviour support (PBS), de-escalation techniques, and crisis intervention.

Job Details

Expected Hours: 8 – 56 hours per week (depending on availability and participant needs)

Schedule:

Day shifts, afternoon shifts, evening shifts and night shift.

Weekend availability

Rotating roster and shift work

Public holidays

Pay: From $37.00 per hour (Based on experience and qualifications)

Work Authorisation: Must have full working rights in Australia

Expected Start Date: ASAP
