Are you keen to use your research skills to contribute to the foundation of threatened species and threatened ecological community conservation in NSW?

We are seeking to appoint a Senior Project Officer - Threatened Species Assessment to provide advanced scientific and analytical support for the review of lists of threatened species and ecological communities under the NSW Biodiversity Conservation Act. This work supports the NSW Threatened Species Scientific Committee to meet its legislative responsibilities under the Biodiversity Conservation Act (2016) and the Intergovernmental Agreement on a Common Assessment Method (2015). As Senior Project Officer - Threatened Species Assessment you will:

• prepare assessments for threatened species and ecological communities for consideration by the NSW Threatened Species Scientific Committee
• establish and maintain networks with internal and external experts, field officers, Saving our Species (SoS) species project coordinators, and other stakeholders to support the preparation of assessments
• ensure the application of a high standard of scientific rigour to assessments
• manage aspects of project implementation, including ensuring projects are delivered to agreed timelines and quality
• contribute to team-based learning and a supportive team culture

About You

You are a motivated and organised individual, who pays attention to detail. You will have expertise in applying research skills, and in exploring and interrogating data to ensure robust and scientifically-rigorous outcomes. You will be able to interpret complex and often incomplete information, and be able to articulate your findings to a range of audiences.

To be successful in this role you will have:

• High level knowledge of threatened species assessment ecology and threat management

• Extensive experience in supporting complex projects to achieve priority objectives
• Experience in exercising judgement to form recommendations in line with statutory requirements
• Strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels

Knowledge of threatened ecological community assessment ecology and threat management is highly desirable.

• Degree qualification in a relevant field.
