WHO ARE WE?

Established in 1991, Danila Dilba Health Service (DDHS) is an Aboriginal community-controlled organisation committed to providing culturally appropriate, comprehensive primary health care services and community development within the Biluru (Aboriginal) community of the Yilli Rreung (Greater Darwin) Region in the Northern Territory.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The role will be based at Darrandirra Child and Family Centre. The Child Health Nurse (CHN) Nurse will provide comprehensive Child Health Service to address and meet the needs of children 0-5years and their families resulting in optimal outcomes for Danila Dilba Health Service clients. The CHN position is aimed at improving early intervention and outcomes for DDHS families with neurodevelopmental concerns or needs and will provide a high quality, comprehensive and culturally appropriate model of care to families. The CHN will work within scope of practice, informed by clinical need and supported by GP's and DDHS Primary Health Care services including the allied health team and Family Support Worker.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Work from the Darrandirra Child and Family Centre undertaking a range of child health care coordination activities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families who are 0-5 years of age and registered as a DDHS client.
  • Complete ASQ Trak/Neurodevelopmental assessments and refer when required.
  • Actively participate in the delivery of direct clinical care with a focus on children 0-5 years of age.
  • Provide comprehensive culturally clinical child health services to children and families.
  • Provide a range of screening, treatment, and education and anticipatory guidance in relation to all aspects of child health.
  • Appropriate allocation, monitoring and timely follow up of child health recalls.
  • Working effectively with Family Support workers to engage with clients involving the client's family / carer as appropriate.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential

  • Current registration with AHPRA with a minimum of 5 years' experience.
  • Post graduate qualifications qualification in child health.
  • Demonstrated experience in working effectively in child health program management and prevention activities with knowledge of the principles of primary health care and program delivery in the primary health care contexts
  • Demonstrated the knowledge and understanding of cultural factors and social determinants of health relating to Aboriginal health
  • Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal skills, verbal, and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with people and stakeholders across a range of cultures and professions.

Desirable

  • Demonstrated experience and competency in working with Communicare.
  • Experience in working in an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service or similar complex environment such as service industry or public administration.
  • Experience in facilitating programs with internal and external service providers.

  • Willing to undergo a Police Check.
  • Ability and willingness to obtain a Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card).
  • Current driver's licence.
  • Current CPR certificate or the preparedness to gain one within 6 months of commencement.
  • Fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or an exemption as listed on the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) be submitted.
  • Full rights to work in Australia.
