About the role

The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder is seeking a sharp, strategic communicator to lead our Marketing and Communications team.

This is a high-impact leadership role where you'll work closely with the Mayor, CEO and Executive Leadership Team to shape the City's messaging, brand and community advocacy efforts. You'll lead a capable, motivated team and oversee a wide range of media, communications and promotional activities that influence, engage and build community confidence in the City's work.

You will be responsible for leading the City's Strategic Marketing and Communications Plan, from media and public relations to branding, stakeholder engagement, digital communications and community advocacy. You'll play a key role in positioning Kalgoorlie-Boulder as a forward-thinking regional city and an active partner in WA's future.

What we're looking for:

  • A strong background in strategic communications, public relations or journalism.
  • Proven ability to advise senior leaders and manage complex or sensitive messaging under pressure.
  • Experience leading integrated marketing and communications functions, with a hands-on approach.
  • Excellent writing and media liaison skills, with the ability to manage issues and craft campaigns that make an impact.
  • A collaborative leadership style and a passion for growing team capability and engagement.

What you'll do:

  • Lead a team of seven direct reports across media, communications, PR, campaigns, content and promotions.
  • Build and protect the City's brand and reputation across traditional and digital platforms.
  • Deliver proactive communications plans and campaigns with timely communications that speak to our diverse audiences.
  • Deliver proactive and reactive media enquiries, develop advocacy content, and provide strategic communications advice to the Executive Team, Mayor and elected members.
  • Drive positive engagement with our community, stakeholders and regional partners.
