Melbourne Teaching Health Clinics (MTHC) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of Melbourne and provides world class clinical training opportunities for the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences students. It also provides patient access to high quality health care for members of the Victorian community, within a private practice setting. There are six clinical areas that are central to this service, and they include general medical practice, dentistry, optometry, audiology, speech pathology and psychology.

About Melbourne Eyecare Clinic
The Melbourne Eyecare Clinic (MEC) engages the postgraduate students from the Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences to provide comprehensive eyecare services under the supervision of leading optometric practitioners in Melbourne. It also carries a wide range of designer and budget frames for men, women and children and a full range of contact lenses, including soft, rigid, and orthokeratology designs, are fitted by staff.

About the Role
We are seeking passionate Optical Assistants and Dispensers to join our patient-focused, values-driven team! We currently have a part-time (0.6 FTE) Optical Dispenser and casual Optical Assistant opportunities available.
As an Optical Dispenser, you will use your technical expertise to dispense and fit optical appliances, support and mentor junior staff, and ensure compliance with Australian Standards while delivering excellent customer service. Optical Assistants will help patients choose frames and lenses, provide front desk support, and assist with daily clinic operations. Both roles are essential to maintaining high standards of patient care and contributing to a collaborative, welcoming clinic environment.
The salary range for Optical Dispensers is $64,232 to $72,295/annum (FTE) and for casual Optical Assistants is $35.0495 to $39.4498/hour (inclusive of casual loading). Super will be added on top and annual rates will be pro rata for part-time staff.
About You
Essential Selection Criteria
Optical Dispenser
Certificate IV in Optical Dispensing or equivalent experience.
Strong technical dispensing and customer service skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Excellent communication and organisational skills.
Optical Assistant
Basic knowledge of optics or experience as an optical dispenser preferred, but not essential.
Previous customer service experience, ideally in a healthcare or retail setting.
Willingness to learn and a proactive, flexible attitude.
Good interpersonal and computer skills.
