Sydney, Canberra or Melbourne based, Hybrid role | National Peak Organisation

We're partnering with a respected national membership organisation that's on an exciting journey - shifting from looking inward to its members, to also projecting a stronger, bolder voice outward to government, industry and the wider community. As part of this transformation, they're seeking a seasoned Strategic Advisor to support a senior industry spokesperson and advocate operating at the heart of national conversations.

About the role

This is a unique opportunity to step behind the scenes and help shape the voice and impact of a high-profile industry figure. Working closely with the executive office, policy, comms and government relations teams, you'll help craft messaging, prepare for media and stakeholder engagements, and navigate complex or contested issues where positions need to be balanced, framed and communicated thoughtfully.

Key aspects of the role:

• Drafting briefings, speeches, and strategic messaging tailored to diverse audiences
• Preparing your executive for public engagements, including identifying risks and opportunities
• Building and maintaining trusted relationships with journalists, government offices, industry figures and special interest groups
• Supporting the delivery of a national advocacy agenda and tracking alignment to organisational priorities
• Travelling nationally on average once a fortnight to support engagements and events

About you:

You are:

• Strategically minded, politically aware and comfortable navigating contested spaces
• Experienced in supporting an executive, public affairs lead or spokesperson in advocacy or stakeholder-heavy roles
• Skilled in distilling complex technical or policy information into clear, engaging narratives
• Confident engaging proactively with journalists, policy advisers and external stakeholders
• Naturally process-driven, calm under pressure and resilient when plans change
• Comfortable with regular national travel

• An industry association, professional body or special interest group
• Public affairs, stakeholder relations or advocacy roles in government or large organisations
• Advising senior leaders, ministers or C-suite executives on strategic messaging and external relations
