Our participants, Our people, Our purpose

Currently, there are around 5.5 million Australians with a disability. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) implements the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which is one of the biggest social reforms in the country since Medicare. As an Agency, we support more than 717,000 participants with a significant and permanent disability, and the families and carers of those living with disability. For many Australians, this will be the first time they receive the disability support they need. The NDIA is designed to enhance the quality of life and increase economic and social participation for people with disability and will mean a peace of mind for every Australian.

A new role awaits

The Technology Services Division has an APS6 vacancy in the Technology Asset Management Directorate, which is a section within the Agency ICT Services Branch.

The Agency ICT Services Branch supports all ICT systems and infrastructure including the primary business applications such as SAP CRM and Salesforce CRM.

Technology Asset Management is a brilliant team to work in – we play a critical role in ensuring the Agency and its staff have access to the technology platforms, software, and hardware they need to deliver services to Scheme Participants and Partners.

This role includes managing technology assets, from acquisition to retirement, with a strong focus on compliance, efficiency, and planning combined with a mandate to expand the function further within the agency. We value innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement; the next time we do something, it is better than the last time we did it.

Whilst this role is specifically a Team Leader for the Software Asset Management function, it also supports broader asset management functions.

While this role can be performed from any of our NDIA Office locations nationally, flexible and remote working arrangements are also available.

Where you can add value

You will play a key role in overseeing the lifecycle of software assets across the Agency. You will ensure software assets are accurately tracked, compliant with licensing and contractual obligations, and aligned with organisational policies and procedures.

This role requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership capabilities, capable of working with autonomy and exercising sound judgement. You will interpret and apply legislation, policy, and best practice frameworks to deliver effective outcomes.

You will lead a small team of asset management professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement. Your ability to mentor and guide team members will be essential in building capability and ensuring consistent delivery of outcomes.

You will bring experience in managing software assets across their lifecycle, be it procurement, optimisation, and retirement, with a strong understanding of licensing models, compliance requirements, and the nuances of SaaS, on-premises, and hybrid environments.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Lead and mentor a team to ensure high performance, capability development, and effective delivery.
  • Compliance with software licensing agreements and related contracts.
  • Ensuring accurate records are maintained in asset management systems.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across procurement, finance, and technology teams to support contract administration and meet internal customer requirements.
  • Oversee software optimisation activities such as true-up, true-down, reclamation and forecasting to ensure cost control and availability.
  • Provide regular reporting on asset management operations, including performance against KPIs, SLAs, and compliance metrics.
  • Represent the Agency in vendor meetings and contribute to contract negotiations and relationship management.
  • Support internal and external audits by identifying discrepancies, coordinating remediation activities, and ensuring data integrity across systems.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Enough about us, let’s talk about you

You are a confident and capable team leader with experience in technology asset management, particularly in software licensing and compliance. You enjoy environments that require strategic thinking, autonomy, and accountability, and can interpret policy and legislation to deliver high quality outcomes.

A collaborative leadership style that supports capability development and continuous improvement is essential. You are experienced in mentoring team members, driving performance, and embedding best practice approaches across asset management functions.

A strong understanding of software asset lifecycle management, including procurement, optimisation and retirement, is expected. You maintain compliance with licensing agreements and contractual obligations and ensure asset records are accurate and audit-ready.

You are proactive in identifying and resolving discrepancies across systems and work effectively with stakeholders in procurement, finance, and technology to support contract administration and meet operational needs.

A strategic mindset, confidence in vendor engagement, and a commitment to continuous improvement will support success in this role.

The below skills, knowledge and experience would be highly regarded:

Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret licensing and asset data to support decision-making and compliance.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, documentation, and stakeholder communications.
  • Proficient in using asset management and IT service management tools, as well as Microsoft Office applications for data analysis and reporting.
  • Capable of leading and mentoring team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
  • Skilled in stakeholder engagement and relationship management, including internal teams and external vendors.

Knowledge:

  • Sound understanding of software asset management principles, including lifecycle management, compliance, and optimisation practices.
  • Familiarity with software licensing models (e.g. subscription, perpetual, SaaS, hybrid) and associated issues.
  • Awareness of audit processes, risk mitigation strategies, and governance frameworks relevant to technology asset management in a government or enterprise context.
  • Understanding of procurement and financial processes as they relate to technology assets.

Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience managing software assets across their lifecycle, including procurement, optimisation, and retirement.
  • Led or contributed to software compliance activities, audits, and remediation efforts.
  • Maintained accurate records using asset management and ITSM systems to support reporting and compliance.
  • Mentored staff or led teams within technology, asset management, or similar functions.
  • Worked within government or large enterprise environments, with exposure to procurement, contract management, and vendor engagement.
