Job Description
The Youth Development Officer (YDO) will provide day-to-day care and guidance to at-risk young people in a Residential Out Of Home Care (ROOHC) setting. This role involves developing and implementing individualised care plans, offering emotional support, and creating a safe and nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Supervise young people, ensuring their safety and well-being while empowering them to explore their interests and talents.
* Build positive relationships, serving as a role model and mentor.
* Implement personalised programs with guidance from the Youth Development Coordinator (YDC).
* Plan and facilitate group activities, workshops, and educational programs that promote life skills and self-esteem.
* Maintain accurate records, including case notes and progress updates.
* Communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive care.
* Support the development of independent living skills such as budgeting, cooking, and personal hygiene.
* Promote cleanliness and organisation as key aspects of healthy living.
* Respond to crisis situations with de-escalation and conflict resolution strategies.
* Ensure the safety of the home and report any hazards to the YDC.
* Participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance skills and knowledge.
What are we really looking for in a YDO?
* Compliance with the Minimum Qualifications Standards.
* WWCC (Blue card) and current Police check (within the last 3 months).
* NDIS Worker Screening (Yellow Card) or willingness to obtain.
* Current First Aid and CPR certificates, with a commitment to keep them updated.
* Hope and Healing Certificate to be completed before commencement.
* Open Queensland Driver's License.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust.
* Basic knowledge of child development, trauma-informed care, and positive behavior support is preferred.
* Availability for a rotating roster, including days, weekends, and sleepovers.
* Ability to work effectively in a team environment and maintain routine.
* Demonstrated ability to manage crisis situations and remain composed under pressure.
* Previous experience with at-risk youth is a bonus, but training is available.
